Friends of Nockamixon State Park

We have an important update for our visitors, which is also being broadcast on several local news and media outlets (one report is linked below).
The recent news report of a woman reporting being raped at the Park on 10/02 was determined to be false. The woman has admitted to making the story up and that no rape or assault occurred. Pennsylvania State Police are continuing to investigate this case.

Thank you!

Ash Tree Removal
Work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at Nockamixon State Park to remove dying ash trees affected by the emerald ash borer and other trees that may become a hazard.
During the active cutting phase of this project, some sections of the park will be completely closed for the safety of park visitors. Absolutely NO use of the trail or closed area is permitted (hiking, horseback riding, hunting, etc) while the this project is taking place.
As there will be heavy equipment in use and logging operations, we ask that the public refrain from entering these areas and respect all ‘Do Not Enter’ signs for your safety. Park maps indicating logging areas can be obtained at the park office.
The areas that will be closed include the entire Elephant Trail equestrian/hiking trail loop between Elephant Road and Stover Mill Road to cut timber blocks 3, 4, 5, & 6.
The visiting public can still enjoy the nearby Church Trail, Mink Trail, and the Mountain Bike trail system. The cabin colony area will not be affected. Additionally, the northern side of the park (main day use area near park office) is not impacted by the operation at this time.
The trails will be closed until further notice, check back for updates

FONSP Board Safe Dock Project

The Friends group is currently soliciting donations for a handicap accessible dock for kayaks and canoes. Mike Quinn, Friends Group Chairperson, reports that the new Board Safe Dock System would make launching a kayak or canoe at Nockamixon a whole lot easier and safer for Pennsylvanians with disabilities.
The project is part of a larger effort to increase accessible recreation opportunities in parks across the state spearheaded by the Pennsylvania Parks and Forest Foundation, a 501 c 3 non profit organization, of which The Friends of Nockamixon is a chapter member.
The Friends group has received a grant from the Harlon’s Fund at the Philadelphia Foundation. The group has also applied for several grants from various organizations to help in the fundraising effort. However, this project needs the support of the local area to be successful. Please consider supporting the Friends group in donating to this worthwhile effort.
